I heard a great podcast the other day. I’ll talk more about them because they are great and make me want to move in – manana!  They were talking about how to keep your privacy in cohousing. They said to use the universal sign for do not disturb – have your ear buds in!  I thought that was funny. Cohousers could point to their ears to say, not this moment.

In reality, it is hard to know if someone wants to be disturbed if reading a book on their porch or doing gardening outside their lawn. I would try to ask.  Once I didn’t see the ear buds and asked my question and then let them go back to gardening.

Here is the sign for disturb so look up the sign for no and maybe that’ll do.

About CJ

I was a Spanish teacher for 5 years in the Public School system in 3 different states. I homeschooled and taught at a democratic free school. I heard about cohousing in 2010 and wanted to move in right away. I met a group building one in 2018 and got to move in the summer of 2019. It only took a year to want out.
