There goes the neighborhood

I just heard this expression. I hadn’t heard of the concept in years – decades. Probably because it is downright racist.

I wonder how it works with cohousing. There is such a push for a fit – someone to fit in. In reality, a person who seems like they would be perfect in cohousing, might not mesh with your particular group and vice versa.  And if everyone is the same “perfect fit” wouldn’t that go back to the original sentiment of the phrase – we only want people who act and talk like us?

About CJ

I was a Spanish teacher for 5 years in the Public School system in 3 different states. I homeschooled and taught at a democratic free school. I heard about cohousing in 2010 and wanted to move in right away. I met a group building one in 2018 and got to move in the summer of 2019. It only took a year to want out.
